I love this grill! Completely satisfied...an excellent product and a great addition to my kitchen arsenal of fine cookware. The perfect tool for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A simple to use, energy efficient, device sure to please all cooks from beginners to experienced chefs. The enamel coating eliminates the need to season before cooking, but with use the pan will develop a nice patina like regular cast iron and has all the virtues only without the fuss. Being cast iron, this grill can take the heat and safe on all all cooking surfaces, both indoors and out. A word of caution for the uninitiated would be to heat on low and gradualy increase temperature to the desired setting, so as not to cause thermal shock which could crack or warp the pan. With cast iron a LITTLE heat goes a long way, so mid-low setting is all you need for most cooking. To avoid sticking, allow the pan to heat up a few minutes before cooking. If you feel the need to sear a steak or burger, go ahead as this grill will certainly do the trick. This reversible grill can cook chicken and fish with equally results of perfection. Pancakes, eggs, and sausage are at home with this pan. It surely gets a lot of use in my household. Anyone looking to purchase a grill would be hard press to find an equal. Although the size may be smaller than some, I find the 13" x 8" cooking surface more than adequate for a small family. Besides, any larger would make the grill unweildy and nearly impossible to cleanup in a kitchen sink. If you are the type whose enjoys hosting parties and need more space for larger groups, you could simply purchase two or more. Treated well, this grill should last a lifetime, and the appearance is nice enough to be a treasured heirloom. Made in France, from a name you can trust and a company whose products are world renowned, and second to none in the industry, so no need to worry about harmful to human health contaminants. If the price keeps you from seriously considering this grill, my recommendation is to resist the urge to buy cheap and save a little to make the purchase that will be a true investment. You will not regret your decision, yet avoid buyer's remorse for buying inferior products that often do not last more than a few years. Been there, done that. If you're not in a hurry, wait until the grill goes on sale. I did, and saved more than $20 or one third of the current asking price. Good luck, and happy grilling.

This is the only real reversible griddle I could find for a glass top or ceramic stove. While it's a little pricey for what you get, I couldn't be happier with the end result: nicely seared, moist, evenly cooked meat/poultry, etc. Plus, you get the nice grill marks. You just can't get the same result with a regular (18/10 stainless or anodized aluminum) pan.



As a caution, I almost gave the griddle 4 stars, due to initial difficulty with cleaning it. I have since learned, by trial and error, it's much easier to clean if you liberally apply "Bar Keeper's Friend" and let the griddle sit for a couple hours. Then, use a nylon dish scrubber.

Ordered grill, received badly scratched, black coating flaking off. Grill is just shipped loose, has no protective packaging at all, they probably have a big bare stack of them and that's how they get damaged. Returned and reordered, same problem.

The Staub La Theiere is an odd teapot. First - it is smaller than I thought. I can get a cup and half hot water for coffee. And in the process the handles get very hot, so I wrap my hand in a towel. Which is good - that prevents steam from hitting your hand as you pour using those awkward handles. The pour can be messy because the water will come out of the lid edge if you pour too fast. If you overfill the pot it will spit boiling water out of the horizontal spout. These problems can be handled, but getting hot water used to be very simple in our house.

I love this pan except that I have had to be careful what I cook in it. It's good for braising and for slow baking but it can be difficult to clean at times. Food particles can collect in the honey comb pattern on the bottom of the pan and they can be difficult to get out. Using plenty of moisture when cooking with this pan is key. The points in the lid of the pan help distribute the moisture back to the food. The pan is a nice weight and I prefer the side handles over a long pan handle. The handles don't take up any space so it's easy to use on the stove, in an oven, and make it very easy to store the pan without worrying about needing space for a long handle to take up. All in all, I am happy with this pan.

How much do I want this thing to be awesome? I've bought two.



What's wrong with it? If you don't release the pressure after each use, you gum up the works. That's what happened with my first one. Buh-bye.



So, with attempt number two, I released the pressure after each use- you do this by undoing the cap. But that's holding back all the pressurized oil. So where does it go? Yup, all down the side of the bottle and all of your hand in a fine, pressurized mist.



This time it won't gum up, but I don't like picking up the sticky bottle.

Since cutting butter out of my diet, I have been using olive oil to grease my pans. However, I do not like greasy/oily food so I prefer a thin coat of oil. I had tried several other methods of spreading oil out in the past, but they were all messy and/or wasteful. The Misto solved both of these problems by spraying a thin, even coat of oil over all my pans with no mess!



The only problem I had when I first got it resulted from filling it too full. At first it would only spray a few seconds before sputtering but as the level went down it worked better. I learned to only fill it half full and it has worked perfectly ever since. I have not had any issues with clogging, but I am going to take other reviewers' advice and depressurize it after each use from now on.



If you cook with oil a lot I highly reccomend this product. And mine will easily pay for itself by eliminating all the oil I used to waste!

When used properly the mist is rather fine with a few larger spurts. Since, I'm not getting graded on my spray technique and I'm still using less oil than if I poured it from the bottle, this mister works great for me. I also love the fact that I no longer need to purchase aerosol sprays in addition regular oil.



If used improperly, this thing will spit oil, very unevenly, and you will not be happy with it. A few hints I've followed from other reviewers:



- instructions say to pump it 10 times and then spray. Sometimes 10 isn't enough to fully pressurize the canister. If you spray when not fully pressurized the oil comes out in spurts. I pump the mister until I feel enough resistance that it feels like I have to start applying muscle. Although 10 may not be enough, don't worry. I've never had to go over 13, so it isn't like you will have to pump this thing for an hour.



- instructions say to only fill it halfway. It works best when no more than halfway full so that there is enough air space to build up pressure. If over-filled, the initial second of spray will be great, then it loses pressure quickly and starts spitting oil.



- I always release the pressure when I'm done and I do not have problems getting the cap to stay on.

This review is for the 10" pan. I bought it due to the reviews, but wish I didn't discount the negative. Everything sticks to this pan regardless of every precaution that was taken. Making eggs in it is a nightmare. I tried preheat the pan, add olive oil, wait for it to be heated and then add eggs/veggies - and eggs would stick without fail. I initially bought this pan because of stick-to issues with my All-Clad stainless pan, but the improvement was minimal. In contrast, nothing stuck Calphalon commercial griddle my parents own without any sort of pre-treatment, so will look to get that once it goes on sale on Amazon.

I purchased a regular cast iron skillet prior to this one and was going thru the process of building up the seasoning for the non-stick effect when I came across this skillet on sale at Amazon.

The enameled bottom interior cuts the seasoning time and the wood handle makes the pan far more usefull than the Lodge Logic I had purchased earlier (still a good pan). This sits on top of my gas stove for daily, multible use. Try using a lower heat setting and realize that the pan will "season" as time goes on. Be carefull in cleaning -no harsh soaps or excessive scrubbing as it will reduce the seasoning.



I gave it 5 stars not because it is without fault but because it satisfies my needs and the reasons I bought it.

Gripe? yeah, well, there were no instructions with the pan - no care or cooking quidelines. There should have been at least a page. But go on-line to Staub and get your own.

Before I bought this pan I have read all the comments about the pan and finally decided to buy one since most comments were very good. Nice quality heavy metal but all the things I cook on this pan sticks on the pan. Cannot even cook an egg because it makes a big mess. I try to pre treat with oil and so on but it didn't help. Not sure I got a defected pan but I will never buy this pan again and I will not recommend to anyone. Also the picture need to be fixed since it is just one pan not a pair of pans.

This is a really great pan. I debated whether it was worth it (I paid more than many of the other reviewers) but knew that it was as soon as I opened up the box. Heavy, beautiful, really nice short handle with a great angle to it. Plus the pan is nice and deep, which is exactly what I was looking for. Very pleased with this. By the way, I have alot of Le Creuset as well and do love it. The Staub is equally good. I was always hesitant to buy this 'honeycomb' bottom, thinking that it would be difficult to clean and would make food stick more. Turns out that is not at all true.

CONS: Lid optional, but metal rimmed glass lids are readily available. Lid from Le Creuset 7-1/4 qt oven should fit or look for a lid at just under 12" diameter. Scorching of interior enamel possible if range top heat is exceeded far beyond any realistic temperature required for searing or browning meat. High efficiency! Use lower range settings, gradually increasing until you achieve the results desired.



CARE: Clean only with hot water and nylon or bamboo bush or "Tuffy". NEVER use abrasive powders or Scotch-brite abrasive pads. Detergent not required for cleaning. Some natural food oil residue is desirable for improved food release. However, sll oil residues can be easily removed at any time by heating 1/4 teaspoon of Dawn detergent in pot for 10 minutes. Re-seasoning is not required but cooking bacon or similar after total deep clean will improve food release properties.



HANDLE: The handle end cap is solid brass and can be unscrewed. The hollow hardwood handle may then be withdrawn. This exposes a stainless steel threaded stud which can easily be removed by hand for oven use or storage.



SPECIAL INTERIOR: The smooth "honeycomb interior enamel bottom" yields master chef branding on meats and veggies. Browning is even with no hot spots. Sautes mushrooms to an even golden brown without burning the edges. Crisps potato and veggie chips to perfection. Sears beef and browns browns poultry very well.



Doubles as a deep sided roaster with the handle removed for oven or broiler use. Or even a shallow fryer. I've roasted butternut squash, meats and veggies in the oven with handle removed. Braises very well if you have a lid. Ideal for "oven fried" lo-fat chicken and roasted veggies. The integral cast loop handle and main handle cast stub are very sturdy and make for easy removal from a hot oven. Oven safe to 600F w/o handle.



Sloping sides measure 3" deep to inside bottom for easy stir frying. Bottom marked "28" for 28 cm. Rim is aprox 11-1/4" wide, while the bottom is 10". Use lower temperatures than you think you need because this pan is highly efficient.



Cleaning is a breeze. Simply de glaze with boiling water to lift carbonized food and sauces. Ordinarily, you won't wash with detergent because the small pores in the interior matte finish absorb natural food oils with each use, gradually increasing the already close to non-stick performance. In the event that you burn tomato sauce, or otherwise gum it up, simply simmer with a cover in place and with a few drops of Dawn added to several quarts of water. Rinse and towel dry. Seasoning is not required. In the event that you ever wish to remove all the oils from the interior, simply use the Dawn method above. Never use scour pads or abrasive powders as this will roughen the enamel and reduce the food release capability. Ordinarily, all that is required is a quick rinse in hot water and perhaps a a stiff nylon brush followed by towel drying. Essentially maintenance free.



Deep frying is possible with a splatter screen. Avoid very high range settings, as in trying to pop corn, or the matte finish may be scorched. Any searing, browning or crisping which you desire will occur at low or medium low temperature settings owing to the pan's high efficiency.



INDUCTION PERFORMANCE: I combined my purchase with a Supentown portable induction hob for a revolution in convenience, safety, speed of cooking, automatic timed cooking. Bonus is complete "use-it-anywhere" operation. Eliminate indoor fish fry/stir fry odors by using on your the balcony.



I've tossed out my obsolete range/oven combination. I use the portable induction hob with the Staub at home or on the go. Induction heats this massive pan in less than one minute!! Try that on your gas or electric range!



The portable induction hob has precise temp settings and a timer which frees me to attend to other errands instead of standing over a hot stove. The Staub's cast iron keeps my dinner warm for a long time after cooking allowing me to write reviews like this and have my meal later!



This purchase should last generations and will save you money in the long run while freeing landfills from endless tons of disposable cookware. I couldn't be happier with the performance, ease of use and low maintenance. As this model is discontinued by Stab, grab one while you still can.

The picture I have provided is now correct.



The description still says it comes with a lid, which it does not. I am sorry the previous reviewer was disappointed by Amazon's error, but the pan is really gorgeous, I bet they kept it anyway.



It may be 10" at the bottom on the inside, but it is 11" at the top. My Berndes 11" glass lid fits perfectly.



I am extremely pleased with this purchase. It is very heavily built (7.5 pounds of enameled cast iron) and beautifully made in France. While it is not non-stick, my experience in searing steaks indicate it is a lot easier to clean than stainless steel or cast iron, and requires no seasoning.

I did not receive the 10 inch pot with the lid, but another Staub pot, without a lid and with a wooden handle - not what I ordered at all, and certainly not what is in the description or anything like the picture. Amazon - you need to correct this.

We recently moved and installed an Induction Cooktop in our new Kitchen . . . I cook professionally, so I have used Induction previously, but only had a single hob countertop model . . . using Induction exclusively meant replacing all my older All-Clad and Calphalon with Induction-ready cookware.

Finding this Staub pan on amazon.com at this price was amazing . . . Staub is obviously superior to LaCreuset and Lodge (more consistent, better interior, nicer finish), and would be my first choice at full price, but at this price, it can't be beat. I made the mistake of picking-up a (China-made) cast iron skillet (similar to a lot of stuff on amazon.com and e.bay) to try-out the cooktop . . the results using it almost made me wish we hadn't gone with Induction . . . the first time I used this Staub results were great, and, as it seasons, will only get better.

Great product . . better price . .shipped in perfect condition in just 3 days (for free!).
