 "Best ever" 2009-12-30

I ALWAYS HAVE FRESH CLEAN WATER JUST BY OPENING THE FRIDGE. I DON'T HAVE TO KEEP REFILLING IT LIKE THE LITTLE PITCHER. I LOVE IT.

"I love my new water pitcher" 2009-12-29
By Officemgr (Ohio)
I bought this as a gift for myself. I am always thinking of ways to drink more water. I have tried lugging bottles home from the store, only to find out they are the same as tap water. I took the advice of another reviewer and every time I get a cup of water, I fill it. I always have a full pitcher of delicious water. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Dont even think twice, buy it!

"THE ABSOLUTE BEST !! (Important info re: cleaning..please read!)" 2009-12-26
By Ann-marie Dalmas
I had a Major name brand Company water cooler for about 5 yrs. We were renting instead of buying, for fear of the unit breaking down sooner or later & we wanted to be covered. It became costly, & having to lug the big bottles of water into the house & returning empties was more than I cared to deal with on a monthly basis, due to our busy schedules, & their office hours.

Also, I saw on a famous nightly news documentary T.V special that the spouts on rental water coolers can get contaminated just by sitting every day with the usual dust & dander of every day life. They said it should be picked up every 3 months or so to be taken into the office, professionally cleaned & then returned. A nice gesture mind you, but inconvenient! I didn't want to be without the water cooler for a few days.

I went to use the spout on my large stand-up unit, to give my cats some water after 2 wks of not having used it (on vacation-cats were @ my mom's.) Much to my amazement & disgust, 2 spiders had made the spout their living quarters, as they both fell into the cat dish along with a cob web or 2. GAG. I phoned the next morning & canceled our rental subscription. They came a few days later & the huge unit was removed (made lots of extra room in the corner of the dining room!!) The water tasted fine mind you, but the hassle of worrying about arachnids & who knows what else, along with germs & the thought of removal & re-delivery of the unit after being professionally cleaned was simply non-appealing in every way!

IMPORTANT INFO -----> **It was never brought to our attention when we got the unit, that the spout needed to be cleaned & flushed out every few months with some chemical cleaner in their facility. It wasn't endorsed, or mentioned at all. After I saw the T.V special, I called & voiced my concern & only then did the agent admit that yes, the spout should be cleaned every few months, & that it had to be taken into the office to be serviced & that it would take anywhere between 3-7 days to be finished. We could take it in ourselves or they'd pick it up & bring it back for $5.00/trip**

I'd seen commercials for PUR & decided to browse on Amazon & saw this item, the PUR DS-1800Z 2-Stage Water Dispenser. I read the comments & saw the ratings. I liked what I saw! I didn't just want a regular pitcher, I liked the sleek design of this, & the LARGE amount of water it could hold, & LOVED the fact that it has a dispenser spout instead of having to pick it up & pour. Great for kids with little hands, or my Grandma who can't lift anything heavy with her one hand.

It sits on the top shelf of our fridge & there's always FRESH, delicious water available for my family, including our very loved cats (they deserve the best H2O.) It's comforting to know that when company visits, I'm providing them with the freshest, cleanest water. That makes me feel like a good hostess.

The price could not be beat!! The filters are economical too. I like how it has the filter-life gauge indicator so I know exactly when to change the filter.

I top it up, or completely re-fill it nightly before bed or whenever I'm leaving the house for, so that it's always full & ready to go! I don't think the complaints about the water taking too long to go through are much to worry about. It just means the unit is doing it's job by ridding our water of all the contaminants we don't need!

My husband & I drink WAY more than the recommended 8 glasses/day thanks to this awesome item! I'm thankful I can clean the spout myself with warm soapy water, & NOT have to send it out to the company's office for a cleaning, & be without the unit & then sit around & wait for them to re-deliver it. One of those "We'll be there sometime between 9am & 4pm". WHO wants to sit around with a waiting window like that??

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED if you purchase this!

Everyone needs water for drinking, cooking, whatever. I highly recommend that you pick yourself up one of these for each fridge that you have in your home! It makes the best gift for bridal showers, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, WHATEVER...& especially baby showers!(new moms need to keep their water intake up).

I've gotten this unit for about 7 family & friends. They've ALL raved about it, & now they're paying it forward by purchasing it for their loved ones.

THANKS PUR !!!

"Spend money once on this, not on bottled water" 2009-12-24
By Jenny Jean (New Jersey)
I basically only drink water so needless to say, I was spending a ton on those huge poland spring 1,000 gallon jugs that I would need to puchase, and lug into my home fairly often. When I would run out and not be able to run to the store, I would have to resort to (ew) tap water. So after reading the reviews I purchased this large PUR water dispenser. It is slim and looks sleek and neat in my fridge, with the handy spigot for east dispensing.

Originally it was going to be my "back up" when I ran out of my beloved Poland Spring. But eventually, I stopped the lugging of the Poland Spring and switched totally for PUR. I drink it straight, use it for ice cube trays, cappucino maker, coffee maker, and even for the cat :)

Does the water come out as fresh ans the poland spring? No, you will never get filterer/purified water that does. But, for a water snob like myself I am converterd to the PUR water dispenser.

 "Not bad" 2009-12-23
By Sarah
I bought this to keep in the fridge, I liked the idea of this bigger dispenser over the pitcher so I could use the water for cooking and such.

On the plus side, it holds plenty of water, is easy to fill, and the water tastes good.

The problem came when I positioned it in the fridge so that I could dispense from the shelf. Closing the door on the fridge pushed back the dispense lever. The next time I opened the fridge I had a flood. I am still trying to figure out a way to arrange the shelves and items in the fridge so that I can use this as I intended, for now it is on the counter, functional, but not quite what I wanted.

How can you complain? I guess it could hold more water....but it holds a lot more than anything else. I can't complain.

 "Awesome" 2009-09-11
By Roger Breton Jr. (Leominster, MA)
Great water filtration pitcher. I was going to get the Brita, but after reading several poor reviews in design and about leaking orings i decided to get this. It Filters water quite fast. I used to buy the 2.5 gallon water with a tap from the grocery store and after getting this have saved so much money just after a few months and i cant even tell the difference. It goes a little faster because its only 1.1 gallons, but if you just fill it up every night before you go to bed, sometimes twice a day just to keep the water ice cold its really worth it. I have not had any leaks, i have not had any mold or mildew. Stays crisp for the 2 months the filter is good. When i change the filter i wash it. Couldnt have asked for a better product both to save money and save space in the refrigerator as its pretty well designed. You should buy this!!

 "Supposedly removes pharmaceuticals" 2009-09-09
By LawyerMom (USA)
I am an avid believer in filtered water especially after reading reports about pharmaceuticals in the public drinking water. In Philadelphia, there were 56 types of drugs found in the water there. Hormone drugs commonly used for transgendered individuals were found in the water in San Francisco.

While the amounts found were tiny, microscopic even, I am increasingly alarmed about the buildup of these chemicals, plus the usual dangers of lead, mercury, and chlorine in our water and our bodies. This box for this filter claims that it can reduce lead, mercury, and chlorine as well as pharmaceuticals (though the pharmaceuticals claim is not verified through any official testing agency).

When we moved into a new home this filter was able to meet our ample needs until we could get an under the sink filter installed. It was easy to refill, took up very little room in the refrigerator, looked nice, and was easy to use. I would fill it up and use it to fill up multiple other gallon-sized water bottles to put in my fridge. It was simple to sit it on my ledge and flip up the dispenser and the water flowed quickly and without leaking. Glad I made the purchase!

"I will always have one of these in my fridge!!!" 2009-09-07
By Amy Jones (Austin, TX USA)
It sounds weird but I adore this water filter! It is always so nice to have cold water in the fridge. We pull it out for dinnertime and put it on a nearby counter so we can refill with ease. Our children can use it easily to get water for themselves and it's a great item to have around when we have guests over. I think we have had ours for about 5 years now. It now has a couple of cracks but that is only because we use it so much. When this one eventually is kaputt we will definitely invest in another! I highly recommend this item.

My only advice on use is to not drink the first batch of water that runs through a new filter. There probably isn't anything wrong with that water...it just tastes funny to me personally.

 "GREAT!" 2009-09-06

I bought this to replace my pitcher style which I was having to refill too often. I like this one, very easy to refill at the sink and it lasts so much longer.
