On the practical side it is accurate. In boiling water it reads 212 deg F (exactly what it is supposed to at sea level), fluctuating only 0.2 deg above and below. It can display in degrees F or C. A backlight comes on when you turn it on, so you can read it grilling meat outside for diner or heating up milk for baby in the middle of the night. It shuts off by itself if you forget. Numbers are large and easy to read. It is fast, reading with a second or so. Temperature range covers both meat and candy temperatures. It is small, no bulky round dial on the end, so it takes up little space in the drawer. It has a loop on the end to hang it up. Stainless steel.
On the aesthetic side it is beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use.
It is expensive, but it cost less than the three cheepos I threw out that didn't work. They were the dial type and when the round part turned on the post it would move the temperature dial all over the place. Easier to justify the cost in terms of perfectly cooked meat, perfectly heated milk for baby, and creamy fudge.
A practical luxury. I use it everyday and love it.
